Successful
completion of the 'C' Category Instructor course at RAF Syerston, qualifies
Gliding Squadron staff as a Qualified Gliding Instructor on probation. They
will be qualified to teach all exercises within the Gliding Scholarship
syllabus on returning to the VGS. 'C' Cats must have a check every three
months in the same way that a Grade 1 pilot does. This is not so much
a check of flying ability, as a check to make sure that the standard of
instruction is both good, and also standardised across the VGS.
'C' Cats
must then complete a minimum of 400 launches before they are eligible
to return RAF Syerston to undertake the B Category Instructor course.
The reason for a high number of launches being required is so that junior
instructors may gain the necessary experience of teaching all GS exercises
to a good standard, in a variety of conditions.
