Welcome to 615 Volunteer Gliding Squadron
Based at Royal Air Force Kenley, the famous World War II Battle of Britain airfield, 615 VGS is tasked by Headquarters Air Cadets to provide gliding training for Air Cadets from across the London and South East Region as well as Combined Cadet Force (RAF) Units.
Last year, the squadron provided 730 Gliding Induction Courses, 81 Gliding Scholarships and 10 Advanced Gliding Scholarships to cadets from across the region and beyond, in total completing 7338 launches.
The squadron was awarded the Sir Arthur Marshall Trophy for the 2009 tasking year, recognising it as the best Viking Squadron in the Air Cadet Organisation. Additionally, the squadron was also awarded the British Aerospace Trophy, given annually to the best overall gliding squadron in the Air Cadet Organisation.
Latest NewsCadet 150Fifty London Cadets celebrated 150 years of the Cadet Force Movement at a special gliding day held at Kenley Airfield on Friday 18th June. The cadets from the Army Cadet Force, Sea Cadet Corps, Air Training Corps and the Combined Cadet Force, some of whom are in the middle of their examinations, took a well-earned break from their revision to take to the skies above South London. For the majority of the cadets this was their first opportunity to go gliding. |
